What are the classifications of 1.2V NiMH batteries and how to maintain them?
1.2V NiMH batteries can be divided into ordinary 1.2V NiMH batteries, dry-charge 1.2V NiMH batteries and maintenance-free 1.2V NiMH batteries; for daily maintenance, you should pay attention to turning off the lights and air conditioner before parking, do not leave the car for a long time, close the windows before turning off the engine, etc., which will be introduced in detail below.
1. Classification of 1.2V NiMH batteries
1. Ordinary battery
The plates of ordinary 1.2V NiMH batteries are composed of lead and lead oxide, and the electrolyte is an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid. Its main advantages are stable voltage and low price; its disadvantages are low specific energy (that is, the amount of electrical energy stored per kilogram of battery), short service life and frequent daily maintenance.
2. Dry charge battery
Its full name is dry-charged lead-acid battery. Its main feature is that the negative plate has a high power storage capacity. In a completely dry state, it can store the power obtained within two years. When using it, just add electrolyte solution, wait 20-30 minutes before use.
3. Maintenance-free battery
Due to its structural advantages, maintenance-free 1.2V NiMH batteries consume very little electrolyte and basically do not need to replenish distilled water during their service life. It also has the characteristics of shock resistance, high temperature resistance, small size and low self-discharge. The service life is generally twice that of ordinary 1.2V NiMH batteries.
2. How to maintain the battery?
1. Before parking, turn off the lights and air conditioner.
Some older models do not support the automatic power-off function after the engine is turned off, so you need to manually turn off the lights and interior reading lights before turning off the engine. If you need to find something in the car or need lighting, you can use your mobile phone or flashlight for lighting, so as not to turn on the reading light and forget to turn it off, causing the battery to lose power. There are also many people who tend to ignore the air conditioning system. After the engine is turned off, the air conditioner remains on. Although there is no energy, the air conditioner cannot be started. However, when we start the car again, the air conditioner will run automatically, which puts a heavy load on the battery. If it is very large, it will also affect the life of the battery.
2. The car also needs to be driven around frequently.
Even if all the electrical systems in the car are turned off, the battery power may be exhausted after the car is parked for a long time. Therefore, even if the car is left idle at home for a long time, the engine must be started regularly. , it is best to sneak on the road for more than 20 minutes, so as to ensure that the battery has sufficient time to charge.
3. Wipe it for better health
Open the hood regularly and wipe the positive and negative terminals of the battery with a damp cloth (that is, the two exposed silver cylinders connected to a black wire and inserted on the surface of the battery). Regularly wipe the dust, oil, and white powder covering the electrode head with a damp cloth. This not only cleans it, but also effectively reduces the accumulation of white acid-etched powder and protects the battery.
4. Before turning off the engine, close the windows
The car's windows and sunroof switches are powered by 1.2V NiMH batteries, so it is best to close all windows before turning off the engine instead of closing them after turning off the engine. You can even close the windows by pressing and holding the lock button after leaving the car.
