Now lithium-ion batteries are mainly divided into three categories: square, cylindrical, and soft-pack. Among them, square and cylindrical shells are mainly used for aluminum alloy, stainless steel and other hard shells. The soft-pack aluminum plastic film used in the shell is their essential difference. As shown in Table 1, the important advantages of soft-pack lithium-ion batteries include:
(1) Good safety performance: Soft film batteries have less electrolyte leakage. In the case of safety hazards, soft film batteries will burst instead of hard shell batteries bursting due to internal pressure;
(2) Light weight: Soft-pack batteries are 40% lighter than square batteries of the same capacity and 20% lighter than aluminum shell square batteries;
(3) Large battery capacity: Soft packaging can save 20% of volume, which is 50% higher than steel shell batteries of the same size and 20-30% higher than aluminum shell batteries.

1) Soft-pack batteries are more suitable for portable, space-intensive or thickness-based applications, such as 3C consumer electronics;
2) Although square batteries have high single capacity, they are large in size and weight, while soft-pack batteries have obvious advantages in energy density. In addition, single cells are currently developing in the direction of large capacity and high rate, which will be more in line with the needs of mobile power supplies in categories such as new energy vehicles.
3) Although cylindrical battery production technology is complex and has significant advantages in energy density, due to the small capacity of single cells, more batteries are required for the same battery pack capacity range. For example, the battery pack capacity of Tesla Model S is 85 kWh, which has about more than 7000 18650 cylindrical batteries. The requirements for battery management system (BMS) are very high, while the single cell capacity soft pack value is more than 10 18650 cylindrical batteries, and the requirements for BMS are relatively low. Considering the limited carrying capacity of most BMS in my country and even in the world, large-capacity battery packs will not use too many cylindrical batteries. In addition, cylindrical batteries often explode due to their high energy density, poor safety, and high internal pressure caused by hard shells, while LR03 alkaline battery have obvious advantages.
