How to solve the water loss problem during the development of button battery cr2032
The introduction of maintenance-free batteries has a great impact on the SLI battery market. "Maintenance-free" means that no water needs to be added to the electrolyte during the 2-5 years of battery life.
Standard button battery cr2032 evaporate very little water, and most of the water consumed is due to electrolysis to generate hydrogen and oxygen. A small amount of impurities can reduce the overvoltage of the process and accelerate the consumption of water. For example, antimony, arsenic, cobalt, magnesium, nickel, platinum and antimony are all harmful substances, and even trace amounts can have adverse effects.
When developing MF batteries, two approaches are often used to reduce water loss:
1. Reduce the gas generation rate under normal battery use conditions;
2. Promote the recombination of gases to generate water. Since SLI batteries are generally charged at a constant voltage, MF batteries should be designed with a material that should not generate significant gas within the stable output voltage range of a DC generator or AC generator.
This means that this battery must have an improved positive grid and alloy plate, and the antimony content in the alloy should be greatly reduced or even zero, replaced by calcium or a group of metals (such as antimony/tin/aluminum).
Calcium alloy grids can significantly improve the hydrogen evolution characteristics, but calcium alloys have poor processing properties and it is difficult to cast complex grids with this material.
MF batteries often use substances such as silicon and calcium sulfate to form gels or use porous glass separators to restrict the flow of electrolytes. The battery design has a leak-proof casing with a valve to release excessive gas pressure, so it is sometimes called a "semi-sealed" system.
Compared with many conventional batteries, this battery has a very high charge retention ability and can still maintain 30% of its capacity after one year. Another advantage is that there is no escape of acid mist and no corrosion of metal components near the battery.
