Audi has accelerated research and development of hydrogen fuel cells due to concerns about supply issues with batteries and other important electric vehicle components, but the focus remains on electric models. "If there is a shortage of batteries, we must find the most efficient and effective driving method." Audi CEO Bram Schot said, "So hydrogen fuel cells are our only choice." He said that he will pay more attention to hydrogen. More manpower and financial resources have been invested in the research and development of fuel cells, and we have greater confidence in this. Audi will launch a new hydrogen fuel concept car at the end of this year (parameters | pictures). Limited production will also be carried out around 2021. The new hydrogen fuel model will be equipped with a medium-sized battery pack, with a range of up to 150 kilometers in pure electric mode, and can be charged and refueled like other plug-in hybrid models. This model will be produced at Audi's Kasum plant in Germany, which currently produces models including the A6 (parameter | picture), A7 (parameter | picture) and A8 (parameter | picture). Like the hydrogen fuel models launched earlier by Toyota and Honda, the new car is expected to only support the leasing model when it is launched, and does not support direct purchase. In June 2018, Audi and Hyundai Motor announced the joint development of FCEV (parameter | picture) technology. Therefore, the hydrogen fuel cell technology for concept cars and limited edition models will be provided by their partner Hyundai.
