Recently, Texas Instruments (TI) announced that it will display the world's first preview version of a button battery for the new Bluetooth low energy open standard at the Bluetooth Low Energy Technology Conference in Munich, Germany. The product uses TI's upcoming CC2540 single-mode on-chip system. Bluetooth Low Energy technology supports a variety of applications including sports and fitness equipment, healthcare, home or office, and mobile accessories, enabling the use of coin cell batteries and energy harvesting solutions. By using micro-sized button batteries, it can achieve an ultra-long working time of more than one year without charging.
TI Bluetooth low energy technology
TI supports dual-mode and single-mode solutions:
oDual-mode devices can communicate with both original Bluetooth devices and Bluetooth low-power devices, and support both protocols;
oSingle-mode devices only support Bluetooth low energy products and are optimized for low-power, low-cost applications.
TI demonstrated the world's first single-chip single-mode Bluetooth low energy device in a 6 mm x 6 mm package that supports controllers, hosts and applications.
