The weight difference between the two types of batteries is also significant. Lead acid batteries are much heavier due to the use of lead plates and a large amount of electrolyte. A 100 amp lead acid battery can weigh several times more than a 100 amp lithium ion battery. This extra weight can be a disadvantage in applications where portability is important, such as in small electric vehicles or portable power tools. This makes them a more accessible option for users on a tight budget. Additionally, lead acid batteries are more tolerant of over discharging and over charging to a certain extent, which can be an advantage in some less sophisticated applications.
