Explosion proof lithium batteries have always been a potential explosion hazard. With the increasingly widespread application, explosion accidents have emerged one after another. In fact, through the correct design of the lithium-ion battery pack system and determination of unit level, lithium-ion batteries can be very safe. 1. Explosion proof technology
① Lithium batteries have become the preferred battery for portable electronic products, with high production capacity density and competitive prices. Previously, explosion-proof circuits and core technologies had matured, and explosion accidents should be decreasing.
② Explosion proof technology is a new type of battery product made of high safety factor materials, which can effectively suppress the explosion of batteries. The safety characteristic of explosion-proof lithium battery pack is its biggest feature. To ensure the safety of lithium batteries, we usually design an explosion-proof valve on the battery casing, which can damage the battery in a timely manner when the pressure is too high, releasing the internal pressure of the battery and preventing the lithium battery pack from exploding in the event of thermal runaway.
③ Due to improper use of lithium batteries, when the battery is overcharged or other malfunctions occur, a large amount of gas will be generated inside the battery due to chemical reactions, leading to a rapid increase in internal pressure and the occurrence of an explosion accident. Therefore, in order to prevent this danger, batteries are generally equipped with explosion-proof devices.
2. Explosion prevention measures
① When charging a lithium battery, it is necessary to set the upper limit of the charging voltage and the lower limit of the discharge voltage, with ideal values of 4.2V and 2.4V, respectively. Therefore, life, capacity, and safety can be considered simultaneously. In addition, the upper limit of the current is also very necessary.
② The best method is to design a circuit board with battery protection. Although this will increase the manufacturing cost of lithium batteries, it is necessary for the safe use of lithium batteries, and all legitimate lithium battery manufacturers cannot avoid this design.
③ The protection of lithium batteries should include: upper limit of charging voltage, lower limit of discharge voltage, and upper limit of current. Generally speaking, in a lithium battery pack, in addition to the lithium battery core, there is also a protective board that mainly provides these three protections. However, these three protections of the protective board are clearly insufficient, and lithium battery explosions still occur frequently worldwide. In order to ensure the safety of the battery system, it is necessary to conduct a more detailed analysis of the causes of battery explosions.
