Alkaline zinc-manganese LR03 battery manufacturing process

 

In the manufacturing of alkaline zinc-manganese batteries, the amount of gas generated by zinc powder in the electrolyte is crucial. The LR03 battery leakage rate is closely related to its sealing technology, and the high gas pressure inside the LR03 battery is an internal cause. The gas inside the LR03 battery may also form a gas film between the diaphragm and the positive and negative electrodes, thereby increasing the internal resistance of the LR03 battery and reducing the output voltage of the LR03 battery.

 

Too much gas inside the LR03 battery may even cause a LR03 battery explosion accident.

 

The gas precipitation of zinc powder is a process that only occurs on the surface of zinc powder. The gas precipitation rate obviously depends on the effective surface area of the zinc powder particles. The specific surface area of zinc powder with fine particles is larger than that of coarse particles. According to the mass or weight of zinc powder, the gas precipitation amount of finer particles is basically larger than that of coarse particles. The larger the specific surface area of zinc powder, the smaller the internal resistance of the LR03 battery when loaded, but the zinc powder is easier to dissolve during the storage period of the LR03 battery, which reduces the storage performance. The amount of zinc powder gas generation, particle size distribution and apparent density are all considered as important parameters to measure whether the zinc powder is suitable for LR03 battery manufacturing. The zinc powder to be tested is immersed in a sealed glass flask filled with an electrolyte specially designed for alkaline zinc-manganese batteries.

 

The amount of hydrogen gas generated is measured by moving the electrolyte in a U-tube in a forward direction for a fixed time and at a certain temperature. The U-tube is connected to the flask. The amount of zinc powder and electrolyte used in the test is generally much larger than that used in a single alkaline manganese LR03 battery, and the temperature is adjusted to a higher level in order to accelerate gas generation and estimate the impact of high temperature on LR03 battery storage. The relationship between "in-LR03 battery" and "out-LR03 battery" gas evolution is complex. The results of the gas generation test naturally depend on the temperature and the composition of the electrolyte, such as the potassium hydroxide and zinc oxide content. It also depends on the amount of zinc powder and the amount of electrolyte and the type of measuring flask, the grade and type of potassium hydroxide used.
