At the core of compatibility is the charger’s ability to adjust output voltage and current based on the battery’s specifications. Modern chargers use microcontrollers (MCUs) or digital signal processors (DSPs) to communicate with the battery’s BMS (Battery Management System) via protocols like SMBus or CAN bus, exchanging data such as state of charge (SOC), cell voltage, and temperature. Additionally, they need to handle varying capacities, from 1000 mAh to 100 kWh, by scaling current output while maintaining stability.
Safety features are integral to compatibility design. Overvoltage protection (OVP), overcurrent protection (OCP), and overtemperature protection (OTP) prevent damage if communication fails or the battery is mismatched. Universal input (100–240V AC) and multiple output ports further enhance versatility, allowing the charger to work globally and charge multiple devices. By integrating smart communication, adaptive output, and robust safety mechanisms, lithium battery charger compatibility design ensures reliable, safe charging across a wide range of lithium-ion batteries.
