  BMS system refers to the battery management system, which is a system that manages batteries. BMS is mainly used to intelligently manage and maintain each battery unit, prevent the battery from overcharging and over-discharging, extend the service life of the battery, and monitor the status of the battery.

  BMS is an electric vehicle battery management system and is an important link between the vehicle power battery and electric vehicles. The BMS collects, processes, and stores important information during the operation of the battery pack in real time, exchanges information with external devices such as vehicle controllers, and solves key issues such as safety, availability, ease of use, and service life in the lithium battery system.

  The main function is to improve the utilization rate of the battery, prevent the battery from overcharging and over-discharging, extend the service life of the battery, and monitor the status of the battery. In layman's terms, it is a system for managing, controlling, and using lithium battery packs. The BMS industry belongs to the midstream industry of the power lithium battery industry chain. The BMS industry chain includes four links: upstream materials, BMS modules, BMS finished products, and downstream applications.

  How does BMS work?

  BMS is mainly composed of detection module, main control module, slave control module and other parts. The BMS is generally built inside the packaged battery pack. It is a bit like the "housekeeper" of each cell in the battery pack. Its main functions are as follows:

  Monitor the voltage, current and other status of each battery, discharge the high-voltage cells, and continue charging the low-voltage cells to maintain the balance of the entire battery pack and slow down the overall degradation of the battery pack. This is also the most critical function of BMS;

  By monitoring parameters such as voltage and current, the current state of charge (SOC) of the battery pack, that is, the remaining battery power, is estimated to ensure that the SOC is maintained within a reasonable range;

  Monitor the temperature of each part of the battery pack, and cooperate with the built-in temperature control system to control the cooling of each part of the battery to maintain the temperature of each part within the most appropriate operating temperature range;

  Monitor the battery pack for leakage and other problems, and immediately alert the police if an abnormality is found;

  Communicates in real time with other systems in the car to provide parameters of the current battery status.

  Application protection of automotive BMS

  Generally, the BMS of electric vehicles includes data acquisition, equalization unit, control unit, CAN communication unit and display unit, etc. Since the solution technologies of each BMS manufacturer are different, the BCU module includes a data sampling unit and equalization circuit.

  The requirement for battery packs for passenger cars on the market is to meet the requirement of more than 300V to drive the motor. If a single battery cell is about 3.3V, that is, multiple battery packs composed of at least 100 cells are needed to meet the requirements. According to this corresponding Each battery cell has two detection lines, so the usage is about 200 cells/car. By analogy, the BMS of electric buses also has similar protection. Its driving voltage ranges from 500 to 600V, and the fuse consumption exceeds 400 cells/car.
