Transportation and storage of flexible pouch lithium batteries require strict adherence to safety protocols due to their potential fire and explosion hazards.

They are typically placed in sturdy containers with sufficient cushioning materials, such as foam or bubble wrap, to absorb shocks and vibrations during transit. For larger shipments, palletizing with secure strapping is common. Lithium - ion batteries, including flexible pouch types, are classified as dangerous goods. As such, they must comply with international transportation regulations like those set by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code. For air transport, batteries are often restricted in terms of quantity per shipment and must be marked clearly with hazard labels indicating their lithium content. Ground transportation also has specific requirements, such as proper vehicle ventilation to prevent the accumulation of potentially explosive gases.
In Storage, maintaining the right environmental conditions is crucial. Batteries should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. High temperatures can accelerate the aging process of the battery and increase the risk of thermal runaway. The recommended storage temperature range is usually between 0°C and 25°C, although some batteries may have specific requirements. Humidity levels should be kept low, as moisture can penetrate the battery pouch and react with the electrolyte, degrading performance.
