LiFePO4 batteries contain no heavy metals like lead or cobalt, reducing environmental harm during production, use, and recycling. They also have a lower self-discharge rate (around 2-3% per month) compared to other lithium chemistries, ensuring they retain charge for longer periods when not in use. However, LiFePO4 batteries have a slightly lower energy density than some lithium-ion variants (e.g., NCM batteries), which means they are slightly heavier for the same energy storage. Despite this, their safety and durability make them indispensable in applications prioritizing reliability and longevity.
