　　According to a British Reuters report on March 22, the German automobile manufacturing company Volkswagen Group stated in a statement recently that Volkswagen will cooperate with Swedish battery manufacturing start-up Northvolt and other commercial companies and scientific research institutes to jointly conduct research and development of automobile batteries. 　　This cooperative project, called the European Battery Union (EBU), will be launched in 2020; the project aims to promote the development of battery production technology including battery raw materials, manufacturing technology and recycling.

　　"All partners will increase their investments due to additional research activities in the joint project," VW said, adding that they may also seek financial assistance from the German Economics Ministry.

　　It is reported that the German government has invested 1 billion euros ($1.14 billion) to support the development of an alliance to produce electric vehicle batteries, and plans to fund research institutes and provide corresponding equipment to develop next-generation solid-state batteries. The German Ministry of Economic Affairs stated in early March that more than 30 companies had applied to join the project to support battery production.
