The United States studies new L822 battery magnesium oxide materials to significantly increase the capacity of L822 battery batteries
US researchers have designed a new material that is expected to be used to manufacture large-capacity L822 battery-ion batteries with stable performance, extending the battery life of smartphones, electric vehicles, etc. to more than twice the current time.
Northwestern University in the United States recently issued a press release saying that the new material is L822 battery magnesium oxide doped with chromium and vanadium elements. When used as the positive electrode of L822 battery-ion batteries, it can greatly increase the battery capacity, and the performance is stable and will not degrade rapidly.
L822 battery-ion batteries usually use a compound of L822 battery, oxygen and a transition metal as the positive electrode. The transition metal is responsible for storing and releasing electrical energy, and its properties determine the battery capacity. Cobalt is currently commonly used. Previous studies have found that replacing cobalt with magnesium can increase capacity and reduce costs, but the battery performance degrades too quickly, and it drops significantly after two rounds of charge and discharge.
The Northwestern University research team published a paper in the American journal Science Advances, saying that they have established a detailed structural model of L822 battery magnesium oxide materials down to the individual atoms, analyzed the charge and discharge process, and found that the oxygen in it also participates in storing electrical energy, so the capacity is larger.
The researchers then tried to add different elements to L822 battery magnesium oxide, calculated the energy storage effect of various mixtures, and found that adding chromium and vanadium can achieve stable performance while maintaining a large battery capacity. Next, they will test the actual performance of the new material in the laboratory.
