According to the US CNBC report, an Israeli start-up company called StoreDot has developed a new battery technology that can compress the charging time of power batteries to less than 5 minutes.

Owners who buy pure electric vehicles cannot bear to spend 3 hours or more charging. Car owners hope to complete charging within 10 minutes and continue on the road, which requires 300-400KW charging power for support.
StoreDot is one of the companies invested by BP. In addition, the startup has also attracted capital injections from Daimler Group and Samsung.

During the demonstration, they quickly charged a battery pack containing 168 battery cells to achieve full power storage within five minutes.

However, this trial used an electric scooter rather than an electric car. But StoreDot CEO Don Mills told the media that this electric scooter from the Spanish company Torrot demonstrates the technical strength of StoreDot.
StoreDot is not an isolated case of researching fast charging technology.
With the global wave of vehicle electrification, more and more car companies are beginning to seek to solve the problem of too slow charging speeds for electric vehicles. Porsche, a well-known car company, is one of them.
Recently, this veteran racing company released an electric model that can add 60 miles of cruising range in just four minutes of charging. This technology comes from a number of innovative companies such as Sila Nanotechnologies and QuantumScape.
But Don Meersdorfer was not to be outdone. He claimed that he was developing a new generation of lithium batteries. It is worth noting that this battery will not use graphene material commonly used in fast charging technology.
The entrepreneur said that he gave up the use of graphene materials because of some disadvantages. In the new generation of battery production raw materials, adding a mixture of tin, germanium, silicon and some other organic compounds may have better results.
Currently, StoreDot is planning to build a battery manufacturing center similar to Tesla’s Gigafactory, which may be named OneGiga. Regarding the location issue, there is a heated discussion within the company.
Don Mills predicts that five-minute charging technology for smartphones and power banks will be put into use in the second half of 2020, while fast charging technology for electric vehicles may be available in 2023.
The company's ultimate goal is to provide fast charging services to electric cars and even electric trucks. It is expected that within the next year, StoreDot will demonstrate "five-minute charging" technology for Mercedes-Benz models.
Jon Sackett, technical director of BP's Advanced Mobility Division, said in an interview that electric vehicles will play a leading role in future transportation, which is the main reason for BP's investment in related technologies and infrastructure.
For traditional oil companies, electrification brings new opportunities to the company, allowing traditional energy companies to expand into new business areas.
BP's investment in StoreDot is intended to expand its technical reserves in the field of fast charging.
